WI? Why not!

Once a month I down tools and head off to my local branch of the WI for an afternoon filled with cake, conversation, and curiosity.

Obviously the sweets and savouries are excellent, but the real treat is the speaker lineup, hand-picked by our brilliant members.

We've welcomed blood transporters, TV professionals, and tapestry makers to name just a few.

Today, author Peter Popham joined us for a wonderfully witty talk comparing the lives of Sir Winston Churchill and Mahatma Gandhi.

Their paths overlapped more than I’d realised, and Peter’s insights made for a humorous and thought-provoking afternoon.

Naturally, I couldn’t leave without a copy of his latest book, India Be Damned.

As someone working on my own historical fiction novel, I found it both inspiring and energising.

Are you a member of the The WI (National Federation of Women's Institutes) already? It would be great to hear from you. If you’d like to join, you can do so here.
