Has your job changed your personality?
10 years ago while working for the Bank of England I undertook a personality test and came out as ENTP, known as "The Debater".
This made perfect sense. At the time I was writing a report on the impact of climate change on the insurance industry. This was an intellectual challenge that required carefully weighing up submissions from over 30 insurance firms to reach a consensus. A lot of internal debates took place to ensure that the public report - the Bank's first step into the world of climate change - was well-received.
For 10 years I've been merrily parroting that I'm an ENTP, but earlier this year I took the test again and was pleasantly surprised by the outcome - I'm now officially ENTJ, "The Commander"!
I have to give the test credit. Since leaving the public sector I've set up my own company, and through that I've had the pleasure of working with a lot of start-ups and scale-ups to deliver upon their visions. This has necessitated a more creative - and oftentimes more bold - approach to leadership. The profile fits me perfectly.
I spoke about this exact topic with Michelle Khan (née Penn) during an episode of 'Women Who Make It Happen', a series by InterQuest Group. You'll can watch the full episode on YouTube here.
I'd love to hear from people who have had a similar experience. I can recommend 16 Personalities - the test and basic package is free and can be found here.
